Alright This customer stopped

by with this
naked metal bench, badly in need of wood.
Now the reason I call this a Government style bench
is usually our money is no object for them to spend
and most people couldn't afford a bench of this nature.
This customer found it at a yard sale for a very good price
and wire brushed it and gave it a good coat of paint.
It was decided Southern Cherry was the wood of choice
and would go well with the bench frame color.
I cut and processed the 21 Cherry slats and he picked them up
for the clear coat, this was done to save money.
when brought them back he also supplied the fasteners which was
84 bolts washers and nuts, YIKES,
That was a lot of hole drilling.
Anyway it turned out well and become a bench anyone would be proud
to own.

  1. Robert, I'm the guy you have been milling Cherry logs for. I'm wondering if I can send you pictures of the tree I believe is a Laurel Oak. I intend to drop it and bring it to you t0 mill if you confirm it is a Laurel. How can I send the pictures? Do you have an email address?

  2. Robert,

I'm an enthusiastic woodworker, long on dreams, short on talent, but getting there...

I'm retiring in a few weeks (1/2018) to the Lady Lake area 15 miles south of you) and am so glad to find your website. I'm sure I can learn a lot from you and that your advice will be invaluable. We just bought a house I convinced the wife that our old furniture wasn't worth the cost of moving, so now I have an empty house and a long list of projects... and an anxious wife.

I want to make headboards, DR table, "hall table", "long table", and many other things. I need wood and am looking for a source. Your DR table is outstanding!! The joints! Me wanna!!!

I'll be contacting you in a few weeks.

PS - There's an ad currently on TV about a couple that love this 'ole tree but it fell in a storm and they're sad... They made a long DR table from a rough 3" slab with natural edging. Can such wood be found?
